Position Description:
Research Engineer
Major Overview:
This position will be responsible for supporting data analysis for engine performance/emission development for client’s dual fuel, primarily 3500 series engines.
Major Purpose:
• Perform data analysis and create summary for engine performance/emission calibration for NPI/NTI programs, troubleshooting – test cell/engine health, Product – Development/field issue resolution.
Typical Day in the Role
• Daily, complete engine and test cell health check analysis. Identify issues, trends that help technical team to take appropriate resolution action.
• Write test instructions for engine testing, verify data quality, discuss results with technical lead and create test summary.
• Analyze historical and/or field data to support Continuous Product Improvement projects.
Interaction with team:
• Working with experienced technical team for engine data, test setup, measurement equipment, typically interreacting with 3-4 team members for accomplishing a task/project.
Work environment:
• Engine testing is a dynamic environment with frequent scope changes, requires fast communication, data analysis, and issue resolution.
Education & Experience Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 3+ years of diesel engine test experience
Technical Skills
(Required)
• Diesel Engine combustion, performance, and emission trade off knowledge
• Production engine development and data analysis
• Experience in data analysis/visualization tools like Excel, Matlab
(Desired)
• Experience with client’s large engine development
• Knowledge of Dual fuel engine combustions and controls.
• Knowledge of Canape, Indimeter, DIAdem, Tableau, Python
